Thomas has been a pivotal player in the electronic music scene for over 40 years. He recorded and produced the legendary single Private Plane for his own Oblique label in 1978. A year later, along with his friend Robert Rental, Leer and Rental became the first artists other than Throbbing Gristle themselves to release an album on TG's own famed Industrial Records - the critically acclaimed The Bridge, an album that shared its influence among a number of key electronic musicians of the 1980’s and 90’s.
Following a number of well received solo releases through Cherry Red and Arista, towards the end of the eighties, Thomas formed Act with Claudia Brucken (formerly of Propaganda) to release a batch of singles and an album of satirically glamorous electropop.
Thomas latterly relocated to his home town of Greenock at the end of the 1990’s, deciding it was time to return to his own focus and the autonomy of the self recorded and produced music he continued to make and release through a number of small indie electronic labels. The music he continues to produce is as challenging and cutting edge as it has ever been and many artists still cite him as an inspiration.
