Moni Jitchell are a two-piece hardcore band from Glasgow, comprised of vocalist and drummer GrantDonaldson (also of civil elegies, ideal, and Ex-outblinker) and 12-string guitarist and bassist David scott (ex-thin privilege, ex-billy ray osiris, ex-in wrecks). Both minimalistic and feral, their Sound touches on the noisecore technicality of Botch, the punk fury of hirs collective, and the Mangled electronics and stripped-down weirdness Of melt banana.
‘Unreal’, the band’s first lp, was recorded by ross Mcgowan at glasgow’s chime studios across 2020 And 2021, at the same time as their debut ‘clear’ ep (Gold mold records, june 2022). While the band had Planned to recruit extra members when the first Songs were done, covid left them unable to fit anyone else into their practice space. During this Period of enforced stasis, the pair honed their Live show, augmenting donaldson’s raw screams and scott’s no wave guitar with dense backing tracks and electronic additions.
Pitched between a mechanical reproduction of Their studio recordings and the intensity of Their live performance, Moni Jitchell’s drumless Configuration has already racked up shows with The likes of mclusky, extra life, unsane, part chimp, iceage, and thank.
