OVERVIEW:
A witness… Watching Hall Music come together has been a privilege; so many songs have come and gone and shifted and swirled around.
Time is a luxury, space is necessary.
I don’t know that Emil knew what he was going for at first, except that is was going to be different; a way of combining a big, juicy palette of sounds with grace and intimacy. Playing pretty much everything himself and producing and mixing the whole thing over and over and over, I think it’s fair to say that it has been a bit Brian Wilson at times.
But you can’t get the perfect omelette without…. hence the supporting roles given to electronic pulses, zithers, church bells, krautrock, home-made instruments, chaos and rapture.
“I have found the perfect position just in between joy and darkness"
Emil Svanangen
Spending some of the last two years re-arranging his catalogue for some recent massive Swedish concerts with orchestras helped with the possibilities of scale and a solo European tour with Jose Gonzales earlier in 2011 showed which songs were strong enough with just an acoustic guitar and that voice.
