Nic and Eliza Coolidge are KNOX, a brother-sister duo residing in New York City, whose sonic experiments land them somewhere between the taut, emotive beat-work of James Blake and the acoustically-powered atmosphere of Bon Iver. KNOX’s tracks are shifting sonic playgrounds with seething, surging production, plaintive guitar lines and ethereal harmonies weaving throughout.
Formed in March 2011, KNOX finds themselves working with the likes of John Tejada, Throwing Snow, Paula Temple, Sasha, Maya Jane Coles, and Jori Hulkkonan, as well as being one of Red Bull Music Academy’s 2013 participants. “We are inspired by so much,” the band has said of their influences, “From the consequential sound events of walking down the street, to classical music, to industrial underground. We try to absorb as much as we can and emit what feels natural.”
KNOX’s forthcoming and third EP, Thieving of Well, is the unfurling locus of these instincts—winding together deep plunges of heavy bass, echoes of indeterminate sonic matter and swirling cathedrals of melody. Thieving of Well will be released on Boysnoize Records, with a remix from Throwing Snow.
