Big Sir has released their fourth album, Before Gardens After Gardens. Part electronica and part indie rock, the band is a collaboration between Mars Volta bassist Juan Alderete and vocalist Lisa Papineau who provide the foundation for the music.
Before Gardens After Gardens deals with life and death, as the both Alderete and Papineau were diagnosed with serious illnesses around the same time.
“The bottom fell out,” Papineau told the LA Weekly. “In the midst of this juncture, Juan dreamed a song, woke up, recorded it and emailed it to me in Paris. He said, ‘I know it may be corny to say this, but from now on everything we do really has to make a difference … even if only to us … there’s no point any more to do less.’” T
he duo brought in some great guest artists for the project, including Mars Volta’s Deantoni Parks as well as frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala on drums, Matthieu Lesenechal, and violist Heather Lockie. Broken Bells bassist Jonathan Hischke also contributes to the 11-track album.
